Grab supplies around your house to work as we work or view the stream to see how we do it first and get crafty another time.
SUPPLY LIST:
- Yarn (assorted colors)
- Small diameter dowels (or popsicle sticks)
- Scissors
Join us as we transform two wood dowels and scrap yarn into these captivating pieces. God's Eyes are traditional weavings from the Huichol community in northwestern Mexico and are meant to offer protection. Plus, like I say about most fiber crafts, the meditative nature of their creation is therapeutic as well!
How to Create an Ojos de Dios Weaving
Take two of your wood dowels or sticks and lay them next to each other
Using the tail of your yarn, tie a double knot around their middle
Rotate one dowel perpendicular so you now have an “X”
Hold the dowels with your non-dominant hand and start wrapping your yarn across the “X” - repeat going across the “X” the other way to keep your dowels in the “X” position
Next, start wrapping your yarn around the dowels in this circular pattern:
- Over two dowels, back under one
Continue rotating around until you want to switch colors
- Tie off your currently color of yarn
Tie on your next color and pick-up your pattern where you left off - over two and back under one
Repeat until you reach the end of your design
Tie on a yarn loop to hang your piece from and admire your gorgeous creation!
